📕My Review

Sporty and confident John Mason and his reluctant partner Tim Dixon are competing in an endurance ocean rowing race aptly named 'Death Row'. John is determined to pull out all the stops and has trained relentlessly for this opportunity of a lifetime. Tim, on the other hand, has put in little effort and has only agreed to take part at the insistence of his girlfriend (and John's ex) Geri. Events take a dark and sinister turn when Tim and John experience frighteningly realistic dreams in which they're pursued by manifestations of putrefying skeletons who suck the life-force right out of them. Too scared to sleep but unable to stay awake, the nightmare spills into real life and their worst fears begin.

Death Row is an outstanding debut novel from author Jamie Webb. The atmosphere throughout is one of claustrophobia, helplessness and impending doom. I was literally gripped to the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Believe me, when reading late at night with only a bedside lamp for company, it was absolutely terrifying and oh boy, do I love a book that can turn me into a bag of nerves! The setting was one of isolation upon a vast ocean where help could be several days away - it totally freaked me out.

The writing was extremely competent and if I didn't know better I'd think this author had a few bestsellers under his/her belt. What else can I say about this book? Oh yes, did I mention I absolutely loved it?

My thanks to author Jamie Webb for providing a copy of this book.

📗The Blurb

When enemies Tim Dixon and John Mason decide to enter the world’s most brutal ocean rowing race, they are expecting dangers; sharks, tankers, unpredictable and hostile weather, not to mention swell that can reach fifteen meters. However, when the boat's former racing crew come back from the dead, things begin to take a more sinister turn.
