📕My Review

British couple Finn and Layla are driving through France on holiday when they pull over for a break. Finn dashes off to use the toilet but Layla remains in the car. When Finn returns, there's no sign of Layla anywhere. He frantically searches in the darkness but cannot find her.

Fast-forward twelve years and Layla is still missing, presumed dead. Finn wasn't completely honest about that last fateful night in France but life has moved on. He's now planning his wedding to Ellen, Layla's sister. When items of special importance to Layla start appearing, Finn and Ellen begin to suspect that Layla is back. Their lives are gradually plunged into turmoil and things take a very sinister turn...

Gosh, what an amazing psychological thriller! It was marvelously twisty and superbly tangled. I was convinced I had it figured out three quarters of the way through, but nope, those darn red herrings fooled me again! Yes, it was a little far-fetched but it created a perfect few days' escapism and I really couldn't ask for anything more. The Layla-Finn-Ellen triangle was ingeniously crafted by the author and the gradual feeling of foreboding expertly handled; the feeling that all was not as it seemed.

I received an Advance Reader Copy. My thanks to NetGalley, B A Paris and HQ.

📗The Blurb

A young British couple are driving through France on holiday when they stop for gas. He runs in to pay, she stays in the car. When he returns her car door has been left open, but she's not inside. No one ever sees her again.

Ten years later he's engaged to be married; he's happy, and his past is only a tiny part his life now. Until he comes home from work and finds his new wife-to-be is sitting on their sofa. She's turning something over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. Something that would have no worth to anyone else, something only he and she would know about because his wife is the sister of his missing first love.

As more and more questions are raised, their marriage becomes strained. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?
