My Review

A 2022 Top Rated Read

In the second book of this exciting Scandi crime-thriller series, DI Jamie Johansson and Kriminalinspektör Anders Wiik of Stockholm Polis are sent to investigate a brutal murder on an oil platform in the Norwegian Sea. Tensions are running high as the crew begin to disappear one by one. Someone on the platform has their own terrifying agenda. As a ferocious storm descends, rescue becomes impossible for several days. Jamie and Wiik must confront their situation head-on if they're to have any chance of survival.

I'm really enjoying this series. The second book is just as good as the first. I thought the oil platform setting was highly original and claustrophobic. Imagine being trapped 342 miles from the nearest land. You're essentially on a man-made 'island' without immediate hope of rescue. There's a killer on the loose and time is running out. That's one scary scenario!

Feisty and seemingly fearless, DI Jamie Johansson is a fantastic character with a troubled background. She's brave and fiercely loyal. With partner Kriminalinspektör Anders Wiik they make a formidable team. Alongside her day job with the Stockholm Polis, Jamie is working covertly to solve the mystery of her father's suicide/murder. This subplot is set to progress throughout the series and slots in nicely.

The author's writing is excellent; capturing the terror and helplessness of the situation perfectly. It kept me up at night enthusiastically turning pages. It's action-packed and brimming with tension throughout — exactly the sort of book that appeals to me. Well done to author Morgan Greene on a fantastic addition to the series. I can't wait to read more.

The Blurb

The tide is rising, and there’s blood in the water…

DI Jamie Johansson is on loan to the Stockholm Polis when a chilling call for help comes in. The Bolstad B oil platform in the unforgiving Norwegian Sea is in total lockdown. The body of one of the crew was found brutally attacked and then hanged from a crane. And another is missing. But operations cannot stop. The fate of the drilling company hangs by a thread, a crew change is imminent, and tensions are reaching breaking point.

Jamie and her new partner Anders Wiik are flown out to the platform with just five days to solve the crime, and a list of suspects unlike any they’ve dealt with. These people are scared, dangerous, angry, and they’ll do anything to survive. Everyone just wants to go home, but as the switchover draws closer, more of the crew begin to disappear — one, by one, by one… The killer is playing their own twisted game, and Jamie and Wiik are out of their depth.

The platform is a labyrinth, the clock is ticking, and nobody is safe. The badge means nothing when you’re this far from home.

Out here there is no police.

There is no law.

There’s just oil and blood.

And lots of it.
