The Disappeared

By Sibel Hodge

Review

Dr Mason Palmer is working in Africa for humanitarian organisation Health International when his light aircraft crashes, killing everyone on board. Ten months later his widow Nicole receives an envelope in the post containing a photo of Mason holding a newspaper published two days earlier. How is it possible?

Now convinced he must miraculously be alive, Nicole sets out to uncover the truth. What she discovers is a global conspiracy with powerful people who will stop at nothing to keep their secret hidden.

The Disappeared took a direction I really wasn't expecting but enjoyed nonetheless. The humanitarian aspect certainly made for powerful reading. Based on real events happening in the world today, it's both shocking and enlightening. With plenty of unexpected twists and turns, the plot is an exciting game of cat and mouse. However, I'm just not totally convinced the political angle was for me.
