The Boat House

By Keri Beevis

Review

Please note: This book is now published under a new title, The House in the Woods.

When Emily's boyfriend Max takes her away on holiday to the Norfolk Broads, she sees it as an opportunity to get their relationship back on track. They've been growing apart for a while now and with the recent death of her father in a hospice, life has been stressful and tough. But Emily soon begins to feel someone's watching them; lurking in the shadows. A series of frightening incidents leads her believe their lives are in danger but Max is sceptical and dismissive. Events then take a very sinister turn. . .

Ooh what a great read this was! Full of deceit and secrets, the tension kept on building. I was gripped and couldn't put it down. It was a fast-paced page-turner. I thought the isolated boat house was a fantastic setting — creepy and unsettling by night but a romantic hideaway by day. The story was very twisty and nothing was as it seemed. An excellent psychological thriller.

Synopsis

A dark secret. A deadly obsession. No place to hide.

Max Hunter, my boyfriend, booked the beautiful boat house on the Norfolk Broads as a surprise autumn break

A week away to heal after a fraught few months following my father’s death. A chance to put the lies and secrets behind us and to start afresh. But in the silence it feels like someone is out there. Watching, waiting and taunting me.

When strange things begin to happen, I know this isn't going to be the relaxing break it’s supposed to be.

As I become more jumpy, Max’s patience begin to wear thin. He thinks I am imagining things. But he doesn't know the huge secret I am keeping, so big it could destroy us.

I have every right to be fearful and I have to make sure he never finds out the truth. But what if I am already too late?
