The Executioner

By Chris Carter

Review

A 2024 Top Rated Read

Detective Robert Hunter investigates the gruesome murder of a priest whose blood-soaked body is discovered on the alter steps. The number 3 is written on his chest in his own blood. When more bodies begin to turn up, Hunter realises each person has been killed in the way that scared them most. It appears the killer knew their worst fears. But how? Hunter must pull out all the stops if he's to bring the killer to justice.

The Executioner is the second book in this fantastic series and  phew, what an exhilarating read it was! The plot was exceptionally clever with some very gruesome scenes. The short chapters with cliffhanger endings kept me constantly on the edge of my seat with shredded nerves and chewed fingernails. It was a fast-paced thrilling journey into the mind of a sadistic serial killer. A marvellous read.

Synopsis

Inside a Los Angeles church, on the altar steps, lies the blood-soaked body of a priest. Later, the forensic team discover that, on the victim's chest, the figure 3 has been scrawled in blood.

At first, Detective Robert Hunter believes that this is a ritualistic killing. But as more bodies surface, he is forced to reassess. All the victims died in the way they feared the most. Their worst nightmares have literally come true. But how could the killer have known? And what links these apparently random victims?

Hunter finds himself on the trail of an elusive and sadistic killer, someone who apparently has the power to read his victims' minds. Someone who can sense what scares his victims the most. Someone who will stop at nothing to achieve his twisted aim.
