Sweet Little Lies

By Caz Frear

Review

When 17-year-old Maryanne Doyle goes missing in 1998, Cat Kinsella is convinced her father knows more than he's letting on. He denies knowing Maryanne but Cat saw them flirting together. Since then Cat's relationship with her father has been fractured at best.

Fast-forward eighteen years and Cat is working in London as a Detective Constable when a woman is found murdered near her father's pub. The investigation links the victim to Maryanne, forcing Cat to confront her past and the suspicion of her father's guilt.

Sweet Little Lies, the author's debut novel, is an enjoyable twisty read. Cat is a likeable protagonist with a damaged past; yet she's strong and sensitive. Whilst the plot is good, I thought it could benefit from being less drawn-out. It's well-written and complex but it took a while to settle into it.
