The Winter Killer

By Alex Pine

Review

DI James Walker's Christmas break is cut short when he receives a phone call informing him that the bride's sister has gone missing during a wedding at a posh Cumbrian lakeside hotel. It soon becomes apparent several of the guests have motives for wanting Rachel gone. When her purse and broken glasses are found on the jetty, the search switches to the lake. It's not long before a body is recovered. . .

This is the third book in the DI James Walker series. Having read the previous two, I was really looking forward to cracking on with The Winter Killer. I love how all the books are set during the Christmas period; making them a great seasonal read each year. The plot was fast-paced with plenty of twists and turns. Although I correctly guessed the killer's identity quite early on (I've read heaps of whodunits and watched countless tv crime series over the years), my enjoyment wasn't in any way spoiled. A really good read.

Synopsis

Christmas has arrived in Cumbria, and wedding bells are ringing.
But an ice-cold killer is waiting in the fells…

As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, DI James Walker receives a phone call that puts paid to his Christmas break. During the wedding of the year at a lakeside hotel, the bride’s sister has vanished.

When Rachel left the wedding breakfast before her speech, newly-wed Libby was furious. But as the night went on with no sign of her maid-of-honour, Libby started to realise something was very, very wrong…

Before the wedding night is out, the lake is being searched for a body.

Something old, something new. One guest is a killer. The question is: who?
