Recursion

By Blake Crouch

Review

A 2024 Top Rated Read

NYC cop Barry Sutton investigates a phenomenon known as False Memory Syndrome (FMS); a condition causing false memories of a life that hasn't been lived — in many cases leading to despair and suicide. As FMS tightens its grip not just on the US but the entire world, Barry comes into contact with neuroscientist Helena Smith. Helena isn't aware of it yet but she alone holds the key to what's happening and the means to eradicate it completely.

What a fantastic read! It blew my mind just thinking about the various timelines and personal sacrifices of the two protagonists. I'm not hugely into sci-fi by but Recursion captured my imagination and kept me gripped. It was very cleverly written, fast-paced and multi-faceted. A thought-provoking read that makes you consider the past, present and future in ways you never have before. I loved it.
